World War 1 Air Power

Both sides used airplanes and dirigibles for reconnaisance and later expanded their use to bombing and strafing enemy ground troops. Here an allied soldier is seen firing at a German plane coming in to strafe his position. The lack of adequate antiaircraft weapons in the early stages of the war meant that troops were especially vulnerable to attacks by enemy aircraft.
